What we focus on

Transforming leadership and accountability at all levels of governance

WEWASAFO implements a Gender & Governance program which is aimed at transforming leadership and accountability at all levels of governance in the western region of Kenya. The overall goal of the program is to work towards poverty reduction, access to basic needs and equality between and among persons.

The organization carries out Social Accountability and civic education training program in four sub-counties in Kakamega County namely Shinyalu, Lurambi, Malava and Ikolomani in partnership with Uraia and Amkeni Wakenya through United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The main objective of this partnership is to ensure there is rooting of democracy in Kenya through an informed citizenry, hence the engagement with the communities. The program aims at enhancing citizen participation from the initial stages of planning to implementation of the proposed development projects, hence promoting accountability and governance in the devolved governments which ultimately helps them become responsible and committed towards their communities’ development by holding their leaders and governments accountable.

The program also roots for gender & equality component which is vital to promoting youth and women’s participation in leadership and democratic governance through enhancing their access to timely and relevant information or decision making at County and National levels, hence development.
